Research and development since 1979...
Situated in one of Denmarks largest fishing harbours the North Sea Science Park offers facilities to a number of fisheries research institutes and the large North Sea Oceanarium, a very impresive attraction for tourists and visitors.
The leaseholders comprise various research institutions, development and educational institutions, companies and organizations related to the fishing industry, from both the private, semi-governmental and public sector. The idea of the science park is to have both researchers and representatives from the commercial fishing industries together under one roof for the benefit of the fisheries.
Each of the leaseholders have their own economy, board, management, etc. Apart from their own offices they can use the common facilities, such as: canteen, laboratories, auditorium, meeting rooms, i.e. When it comes to marketing the leaseholders often do it jointly, using the worldwide respected name: The North Sea Science Park.
The North Sea Science Park is internationally recognized for its expertise on: research, resource management, monitoring, development, and training, and acts as advisor on subjects related to fisheries, fisheries management, aquaculture, and aquatic environment to both national and international organizations.
The North Sea Science Park is a private self-financing institution, founded i 1979 by the City Council, the Fishermens' Association, the Industrial Development Council, and the Association of local Trades people in Hirtshals, and was officially inaugurated in 1984. The EU Regional Development Fund finanically supported the building of the science park.
