02-07-2010 Seal gives birth for the 11. time - at the age of just 27
The harbour seal No. 16 has become mother for the 11. time.
At the North Sea Oceanarium we are happy to welcome two new seal pups. One of them is born by the 27 years old harbour seal, No. 16.
27 years is an advanced age for a harbour seal. The maximum age amons seals is about 30 to 35 years, so you can say that No 16 is an old "mother".
The pup will be dependent on milk and afterwards it will start to take part in the meal, when the guide feeds the seals with herings at 11 am and 3 pm.
No 16 and her new baby.
There is a close contact between mother and pup.
